National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) require access to high-resolution numerical weather prediction (NWP) model products to make informed weather and hydrological decisions. However, access to local, high-performance computing (HPC) resources are often limited.
A feasible solution to support HPC needs for NWP is the use of cloud computing resources. Cloud computing is a cost-effective and reliable solution for NMHS’s to have operational forecast support without the need to maintain a local HPC
COMET is supporting the development of an end-to-end regional forecast system built to run on a cloud-computing framework
The cloud-computing framework provides a easy-to-use GUI for users to configure, initialize, and run a regional forecast model to generate weather forecast products
